I wasn’t too fond of the last TERRA NOVA album, the band of Dutchman Fred Hendrix and his brother Ron. All too predictable and cliché-ridden aor/melodic rock which failed to excite me. TWO OF A KIND sees the two brothers and the other TERRA NOVA members taking a new direction, with a band fronted by two very talented female singers, Esther Brouns and Anita Craenmehr. The influence of HEART on this project is obvious– there’s no way you can listen to tracks like “Light In The Dark” or “Give Me A Reason” and not think of the Wilson sisters. The albums starts off really well – the aforementioned “Light In The Dark”, “The Longest Night” en “Little By Little” are all strong, melodic songs, and there are a few more of those. Unfortunately, the album doesn’t quite maintain this quality. A song like “I Die A Little More Every Day” is a bit boring, and the chorus of “Unbearable” is even just about… well, unbearable. OK, there’s nothing spectacular here, but if you are into 80’s music which refers to HEART, you probably can’t go wrong with TWO OF A KIND. Skip a few songs and you’ve got a fine album here.
