Manowar is a band that demonstrates devotion and dedication unlike any other band that I know. This DVD proves it once more. My respect goes out to Joey and the gang and their feats of accomplishment. The quality of their material is stunning and this DVD contains almost 7 hours of first rate footage! Firstly, there’s more than 2 hours of concert material, recorded at Earthshaker Fest 2005 in Germany, where they headlined. There is also bonus material that promises to please many fans… and that is the first ever Manowar Mega Fan Convention that took place from the 21^st-23^rd of July in 2005. The second DVD is a compilation of the most fun and memorable moments of this convention. What’s especially interesting is the documentary about the performance and all of the preparations that went into this mega concert. The pressure that Joey DeMaio (along with all of his perfectionist ways) dished out to his co-workers must have been incredibly stressful. The goals of Joey were very noble because he believes that every fan has the right to get their value for money. Only the very best is good enough and if you don’t agree you can go piss off, according to Joey. Actually, this is a very healthy attitude because there’s nothing worse than paying a lot of money for a performance that turns out to be a really bad one, sound and all. The chance that this could happen at a Manowar concert is very small. This concert was filmed with 27 high definition cameras. The images were impressive, the audience was delirious and the band played incredibly tight. This was actually the perfect opportunity to create a kind of union of all the past and present band members. It wasn’t really a reunion in the traditional sense because this would suggest that this was just a band of old, worn out guys on a podium and nothing was further from the truth. Not only did former guitarists Ross the Boss and David Shankle pay their respects, but drummers Donnie Hamzik and Rhino did as well. The fans were overjoyed, to say the least. The set list was well chosen because all of the songs would have been known by all the fans, both young and old. Singer Eric Adams deserves recognition as well for his strong performance. Many singers today are not nearly as talented in comparison. This double DVD is even more than what we’ve come to expect from Manowar. Those who bought ‘Hell on Earth part IV’ last year know what I mean. This was, without a doubt, the best DVD of 2006… Hail and Kill!
