LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE: Songs For The Last View

You’ll be thrown 20 years back in time after you listen to this short but mood inducing intro. It’s plain to see where this band got its inspiration. It’s not just The Sisters of Mercy who play a role model here. Their songs could have even served as the blueprints of this album. The tone of voice of Rob is so close to that of Andrew Eldritch that it’s even scary at times. In the past, the comparison with The Sisters was always there, but this new line-up takes it much further.
The change of band members has very little effect on the quality of the songs. This is Gothic Metal at its best. The songs are dark, mysterious and melancholic, just as they should be for a Gothic band with male vocals. The music is also known as Rock ‘n Sad. The success of their former album, ‘Filthy Notes for Frozen Hearts’, was mainly contributed to the collaboration with the legendary producer John Fryer (H.I.M., Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Paradise Lost…). It’s no surprise that he was called upon again for this album as well. This one has a darker feel to it than the previous one. You can hear some variations here and there of the well known Gothic theme. Overall, there’s more variety and that’s what keeps it interesting.
Lacrimas Profundere is ready for an audience. The songs are solid enough to remain memorable. ‘Songs for the Last View’ is a worthy follow up to their previous album and it comes highly recommended if you’re a fan of the genre!

Na een korte sfeermakende intro word je precies 20 jaar terug in de tijd gesmeten. Het is duidelijk waar deze band hun inspiratie heeft vandaan gehaald. The Sisters Of Mercy hebben niet alleen als voorbeeld gediend. Hun songs kunnen zelfs de blauwprints van dit album zijn. Het zangtimbre van Rob sluit nagenoeg volledig aan bij dat van Andrew Eldritch, bij momenten zelfs griezelig nauw. Die vergelijking met de Sisters was ook in het verleden al schering en inslag, maar met deze nieuwe line-up gaat dit veel verder dan ervoor.
Nochtans heeft deze toch wel innemende personeelswisseling weinig aan de kwaliteit van de songs gedaan. Dit is Gothic Metal op zijn best. Donkere, mysterieuze en melancholische songs zoals het hoort voor een gothic band met mannelijke vocalen. Rock ‘n’ Sad zoals men hun muziek ook wel noemt. Het succes van hun vorig album ‘Filthy Notes For Frozen Hearts’ was volgens de band grotendeels te wijten aan hun samenwerking met de legendarische producer John Fryer (H.I.M., Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Paradise Lost…), dus werd er ook voor dit album weer beroep op hem gedaan. De combinatie van dit geheel heeft echter een nog donkerder resultaat dan het vorige album opgebracht. Toch hoor je hier en daar verkennende variaties op het gekende gothic thema waardoor het geheel nog meer afwisselt en boeiend wordt.
Lacrimas Profundere is klaar voor het grote publiek. De songs zijn sterk genoeg om te blijven hangen. ‘Songs For The Last View’ is een waardige opvolger van hun vorig album en dus voor de fans van het genre een aanrader!
