New album & single Grimner to come!

Grimner to release new single ‘En Fallen Jätte’ Friday December 15th 2017...!!

Viking folk metal act Grimner release ‘En Fallen Jätte’ the first single off their upcoming ‘Vanadrottning’ album.
‘En Fallen Jätte’ is out Dec 15th 2017 on Despotz Records.

2018 sees Swedish Viking/folk metallers Grimner celebrate their 10th anniversary with the release of a new full-length album ‘Vanadrottning’ (Despotz Records) on February 9th.

First single ‘En Fallen Jätte’ will be released on December 15th and showcases everything that makes Grimner such a unique musical force.
A heavier, more powerful and rhythmic sound, together with a fantastic new voice brought by their latest addition Martin. Expect a dynamic, fresh and thrilling album with the band pushing the boundaries and taking their unique music to a new level.
With ‘Vanadrottning’ and their 10th anniversary celebrations, the Grimner Vikings continue their journey towards new adventures!
‘Vanadrottning’ translates to ‘queen of the Vanir’, referring to the goddess Gullveig from the Norse mythology. She is known mostly from the tale of the war between the Aesir and the Vanir, when she was captured and burned alive by Oden and his herd. Each time they burned her she would be born anew, dying three times and resurrected three times, each time in immense agony. This album has been an absolute joy to create, but like the goddess Gullveig, we have also endured a great deal of pain for it. We hope you will love the album as much as we ourselves do!’ // Grimner

Swedish Vikings Grimner give a unique mixture of folk and metal, incorporating catchy melodies, folk instruments and heavy riffs into their own, yet aggressive metal. With their dynamic and captivating music, with lyrics sung in Swedish, and looking like they have recently arrived from a fantasy world, they have taken enthusiasts of both metal and folk music by storm. Grimner’s lyrics revolve around Norse mythology, folklore, historical adventures of Vikings and life in the same era. With some songs dark and brooding; others fast, jovial and folkish, Grimner’s music is as awesome as it is entertaining.

Ted – Vocals & Lead Guitar / Martin – Vocals & Rhythm Guitar / David – Bass Guitar / Kristoffer – Keyboards
Johan – Flutes, Mandola, Bagpipes / Henry – Drums

More About Grimner

In 2008, Grimner was put together in the Swedish town Motala by lead guitarist and vocalist Ted together with the drummer Henry.
The first demo ‘A Call for Battle’ (2010) was sung exclusively in English but was soon to be replaced by their native tongue Swedish. As time progressed and new records being released (EP ‘Färd’ (2012), acoustic EP ‘De Kom Från Norr’ (2015), full-length album ‘Blodshymner’ (2014)) Grimner has steadily made a name for themselves, including being picked as main support for the legendary Korpiklaani during their shows in Sweden in 2015.
In 2016 Grimner released their praised album ‘Frost Mot Eld’ (Despotz Records), an album that brought a totally new sound to the scene. The album received outstanding reviews world-wide, with songs that to this date have reached millions of streams. With the album and their fantastic overall concept, Grimner has been invited to perform at festival stages around Europe.

English:

This Swedish band is already twenty years together. On ‘Banisher Of The Light’ (2007), their third delivery, they found their signature sound and this ‘Announcing The End’ is already their eight studio album. It was written in Spain and the result is slightly magical, unexpected and extremely professional … at least, that’s what the bio claims!

The title track starts with a sombre intro and takes us on a dark, melodic, heavy grooving journey with alternating scream/grunt and clean vocals (sometimes bringing James Hetfield to mind, in other tracks too), including fine hook. ‘Damnation’ continues in the same vein: dark, pounding, catchy, head banging stuff. ‘Breath’ starts quietly and it’s only halfway the song things turn metal, including a shredding solo. After that quiet spell, ‘Whatever’ follows the same road, but with a catchy hook and a dose of goose bumps as bonus. ‘Vindication’ however is a groovy monster again, pounding, melodic, mesmerising! ‘Dark Appeal’ contains some distorted vocals and hectic passages, but is again darkly grooving hard rock with metal edge, the trademark of Sparzanza, after which the nice ‘Breathe’ is a solid power ballad. The two following tracks are slower paced and less remarkable, but ‘We Are Forever’, with its catchy chorus, keeps me riveted effortlessly from the opening riff on, through rougher passages till the soft fade out, as well as the closer ‘Truth’, with its piano break shifting to a fragile piano outro.

Not a tremendous album, but one you’ll like to give another spin now and then. As I did.

Nederlands:

English:

Preceded by the teaser EP ‘The Slavic Covenant’, Incursed releases their fourth studio album ‘Amalur’. It is always a bit weird, epic Viking metal from Spanish Basque areas, but these guys are doing a pretty good job. It happens to be an album with heroic, inciting pagan metal that reminds us most of all of congenial bands like Ensiferum and Alestorm.

Guitarist Lander Laurido mostly sings in a sturdy way, yet clean, although he uses a firm grunt from time to time. Harmony vocals add an battle-like flavour. There are melancholic songs as well, such as the title track and the partly by a woman sung ballad ‘A Crownless King’, while some of the tracks are regaled with violin. For the final track ‘Fear A’Bhata’ the musical foundation for a Gaelic folkloric song from the 18th century is borrowed and it is sung in their original language. Incursed is not inferior to the Scandinavian Viking hordes.

Nederlands:

English:

While many German black metal bands – and actually all over the world – are looking for expanding their musical influences under an impulse of being hungry for innovation and perfection, Thyrgrim still chooses for a resolute and straight forward approach. The first wave of black metal still finds resonance in their rehearsal room in Oberhausen and – as we mentioned in our review of previous album ’Dekaden’ - hate, grief and anger prevail when they write new songs. However, that does not mean that this sixth album of this outfit around vocalist Kain is a matter of stagnation.

Yet ‘Vermächtnis’ impresses me not so grandly than its predecessor. Opener ‘Die Heilung Dieser Welt’ is just an immense explosion with raspy blackened screams and the rudimentary ‘Frühlingsdämmerung’ has a kind of pulverizing rock-‘n-roll feel in the vein of Motörhead and early Venom. It is only during the longer ‘Die Ewige Suche’ that we get more nuances with any acoustic guitar fragments and intense epic outbursts with nice contrasts. During this slower song, the sky opens and vocals sound very desperate. Characteristics such as shrill guitar sound, beautiful soaring tremolo leads and blastbeats are omnipresent in de next songs, but everything remains quite basic. ‘Gefangen Im Wandel’ finally includes a true epic feel that impresses much more. Again the tremolo guitars with magnificent leads are ace in ‘Das Ende Einer Reise’, but the last track ‘Offenbarung’ is fast and rigorous harsh brutality. Thus Thyrgrim does not move to first division until now, but those who have a liking for the harshness of old school black metal can grace it with a higher score. Raw and direct, without compromises, that is Thyrgrim, although we prefer ‘Dekaden’.

Nederlands:
