New album & single Grimner to come!

Grimner to release new single ‘En Fallen Jätte’ Friday December 15th 2017...!!

Viking folk metal act Grimner release ‘En Fallen Jätte’ the first single off their upcoming ‘Vanadrottning’ album.
‘En Fallen Jätte’ is out Dec 15th 2017 on Despotz Records.

2018 sees Swedish Viking/folk metallers Grimner celebrate their 10th anniversary with the release of a new full-length album ‘Vanadrottning’ (Despotz Records) on February 9th.

First single ‘En Fallen Jätte’ will be released on December 15th and showcases everything that makes Grimner such a unique musical force.
A heavier, more powerful and rhythmic sound, together with a fantastic new voice brought by their latest addition Martin. Expect a dynamic, fresh and thrilling album with the band pushing the boundaries and taking their unique music to a new level.
With ‘Vanadrottning’ and their 10th anniversary celebrations, the Grimner Vikings continue their journey towards new adventures!
‘Vanadrottning’ translates to ‘queen of the Vanir’, referring to the goddess Gullveig from the Norse mythology. She is known mostly from the tale of the war between the Aesir and the Vanir, when she was captured and burned alive by Oden and his herd. Each time they burned her she would be born anew, dying three times and resurrected three times, each time in immense agony. This album has been an absolute joy to create, but like the goddess Gullveig, we have also endured a great deal of pain for it. We hope you will love the album as much as we ourselves do!’ // Grimner

Swedish Vikings Grimner give a unique mixture of folk and metal, incorporating catchy melodies, folk instruments and heavy riffs into their own, yet aggressive metal. With their dynamic and captivating music, with lyrics sung in Swedish, and looking like they have recently arrived from a fantasy world, they have taken enthusiasts of both metal and folk music by storm. Grimner’s lyrics revolve around Norse mythology, folklore, historical adventures of Vikings and life in the same era. With some songs dark and brooding; others fast, jovial and folkish, Grimner’s music is as awesome as it is entertaining.

Ted – Vocals & Lead Guitar / Martin – Vocals & Rhythm Guitar / David – Bass Guitar / Kristoffer – Keyboards
Johan – Flutes, Mandola, Bagpipes / Henry – Drums

More About Grimner

In 2008, Grimner was put together in the Swedish town Motala by lead guitarist and vocalist Ted together with the drummer Henry.
The first demo ‘A Call for Battle’ (2010) was sung exclusively in English but was soon to be replaced by their native tongue Swedish. As time progressed and new records being released (EP ‘Färd’ (2012), acoustic EP ‘De Kom Från Norr’ (2015), full-length album ‘Blodshymner’ (2014)) Grimner has steadily made a name for themselves, including being picked as main support for the legendary Korpiklaani during their shows in Sweden in 2015.
In 2016 Grimner released their praised album ‘Frost Mot Eld’ (Despotz Records), an album that brought a totally new sound to the scene. The album received outstanding reviews world-wide, with songs that to this date have reached millions of streams. With the album and their fantastic overall concept, Grimner has been invited to perform at festival stages around Europe.

English:

Voice was formed in 1995 and released their fourth album ‘Soulhunter’ back in 2003.
After more than a decade they return with a new drummer on ‘The Storm’.

Opener ‘The Storm’ is a heavy track with epic edge in which we notice the powerful voice of Oliver. ‘Steel’ is tighter, more riff oriented, melodic power, with versatile drums, while ‘Flames’ comes heavy as lead with some fragile piano and quiet break follows. ‘Roulette’ is a rather bombastic track with rough riffs, while ‘Razor Blade’ opens acoustically before turning catchy epic power. ‘Savior’ is slower, doomier, after which ‘Number’ is a nice fast, oriental flavoured piece with royal soloing. ‘Heaven’ is great epic, followed by the more restrained ‘Night’ majestic metal. ‘Darkness’ honours its name with sombre riffing and break and so on towards the end.

Mighty platter, without highlights, but with virtuoso arrangements, revealing time after time new aspects!

Nederlands:

English:

‘Hegemony’ is a resolute and dominant sounding title and that’s exactly how the eleventh studio album sounds from this Swiss band of the brothers Vorph and Xy. They started out as black metal band, followed by years of experimentation while they opted for complete musical freedom. It graces them. After more than thirty years of activity, there seems to be a kind of peaceful resignation in their ranks – even though we spot a new bassist Drop – and six years after the predecessor ‘Lux Mundi’, Hegemony’ sounds very familiar and trusty.

It happens to be a stamping plea, industrial metal all over, with tight riffs, dark gloomy vocals and tasteful orchestration. Mechanic sounding instruments are regaled with a full-blooded, heartfelt ardour by suitable production work. The opening track ‘Hegemony’ is right away layered, epic and relished with oriental tinged melodies. Xy has even more experience now with orchestral arrangements and you can hear that very obviously on this record. However, they never lose track with a kind of catchiness and that’s why we can describe songs like the tight rocking ‘Samael’ and ‘Red Planet’ ultimately fetching. There is still rebellion in the band, just listen to ‘Black Supremacy’ (even though they say that it is just an ode to the colour black) and the stamping ‘Dictate Of Transparency’. The latter one is surely one of our favourites. ‘Helter Skelter’ might be not an epoch-making choice as cover, but they really serve a signature version of it. ‘Hegemony’ happens to be a coherent album, a logical successor of ‘Lux Mundi’. Heavy, but not a return to their blackened roots. The darkness reigns more in the interpretation of the world around us.

Nederlands:

English:

After two EP’s, German band Mirrorplain releases its first full album with eight songs and one bonus track. The band mixes alternative melodic rock with symphonic and progressive influences. That makes a fresh sound that gets a hard edge through the voice of singer Christian Göring. The songs have al lot of time changes and surprising instrumental breaks.

Their first EP’s were self-produced, but for this album they could count on the services of Hilton Theissen who also worked with Dark Millenium. The interesting point of this album is the fact that it manages to inject the alternative rock genre with a lot of influences that go from pop to progressive rock. Along the way they maintain a certain unity that gives the album a good flow. The use of keyboards gives it a full and varied sound. The band plays a couple of concerts in February/March 2018 in Germany and the Netherlands.

Nederlands:
