After the release of “Easton Hope”, their second album, this year, which turned out to be a top album, they have now revamped their debut album “Vale”. The release comes with some bonus tracks, a video clip and a comic of “Vale” in pdf format.
It’s not easy to review a prequel of a successful release, because you have to take a step back in time. But with Orden Ogan you’re in for a treat again. This is high quality melodic power metal, with an enormous amount of variation. Folk metal, progmetal, speed metal are all terms which are also part of their material.
If you listen to Orden Ogan, you can’t avoid thinking of Blind Guardian. And this is even truer on this debut. Especially the folky parts and the perfect vocal harmonies presented as little choirs are big references to Blind Guardian. This influence diminishes on “Easton Hope”, which proves they are growing towards their own sound.
The variation is astonishing by times. For example, “The New Shores of Sadness” opens as a speed metal track, but turns into a great melodic progmetal piece. Every musician is extremely skilled and the vocals of Seeb are top notch.
The tribute to Running Wild, “We are pirates!”, from the “Easton Hope” album is presented here in a folk version as bonus track.
Orden Ogan is certainly a new band to watch out for. I already cherish their first two releases and can’t wait for a third.
