METAL NEWS DECEMBER 2013

Manowar ‘Kings Of Metal MMXIV’ and tour 2014

‘Kings Of Metal MMXIV' is a completely new recording with many surprises, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of 'Kings Of Metal' and MANOWAR's following world tour.

Already a significant force with international success since their debut album 'Battle Hymn's, the 'Kings Of Metal' release in 1988 and the following world tour in 1989 catapulted MANOWAR into a new sphere. Songs like "Heart of Steel," "Kings Of Metal," "Hail and Kill," and "Blood of the Kings" became instant classics, celebrated since by metal fans all over the world.

For 'Kings Of Metal MMXIV,' MANOWAR have recorded these timeless metal anthems with new arrangements and their signature "larger than life" sound that sealed their place in heavy metal history.
"Our fans have made us the 'Kings Of Metal,' and with this tribute to one of their favorite albums, we honor them and thank them for their unparalleled support and loyalty!" said MANOWAR vocalist Eric Adams.
'Kings Of Metal MMXIV' will feature 9 main tracks packed with face-melting metal, plus 9 bonus tracks with over 40 minutes of additional music.
"We have pushed man and machine to the maximum level to honor the original recordings that we all love, and to add new aspects and surprises that give this new album its own character," said MANOWAR bassist and producer Joey DeMaio. "The sound is again as massive and majestic as it has always been," he continued.
"Recording this album has been an amazing experience! After playing the songs so many times on tour, Donnie and I now had the opportunity to contribute our own sound and elements that the fans have come to love from our live performances," explained guitarist Karl Logan.
For the new narration on the spoken word track "The Warrior's Prayer MMXIV," MANOWAR have joined forces with celebrated British actor Brian Blessed. Blessed is a renowned Shakespeare and character actor who has starred, among others, in Kenneth Brannagh's "Henry V," Oliver Stone's "Alexander," in "King Lear," and as Prince Vultan in the cult movie "Flash Gordon." Not only an actor and adventurer, Blessed was also awarded the "Spirit of Hammer Award" from Metal Hammer UK for his contributions to heavy metal.
For special effects of the highest level on "The Warrior's Prayer MMXIV," sound effects specialist Hamilton Sterling was recruited; a Hollywood Veteran who has contributed to action blockbusters including "Batman - The Dark Knight," "Men In Black 3," "War of the Worlds," and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World," two of which won Oscars for Best Sound Editing.

'Kings Of Metal MMXIV' will be released in retail on February 28, 2014 as a 2 Disc CD with two 24-page booklets and additional new art by legendary fantasy artist and longtime collaborator Ken Kelly, and as a digital double album.
For the special anniversary, MANOWAR will also open their vaults and reveal never-before-seen photos and other insights into the history of MANOWAR and the 'Kings Of Metal' era.

The release of the Kings Of Metal MMXIV album will be followed by the Kings Of Metal MMXIV world tour, featuring the complete new album and many other classics in a completely new stage production, and will see MANOWAR return to strongholds such as Germany and Finland but also to new territories, never before visited by MANOWAR, including Israel and Poland.

FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE: Learn to cook with Francesco Paoli

Italy's Symphonic Death Metal horde FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, have posted a cooking video with drummer Francesco Paoli. Watch the video here: http://youtu.be/BvAOxYnAp7Q and pick up some of the products used in the video at www.fleshgodapocalypse.com.

Commented the band: “We are really proud to officially announce our last addition to our merchandise. This is a completely different and pioneering idea driven by the great devotion and respect that we have for our country, Italy and our region, Umbria. As Italians we take much pride in our food and traditions, that's why we present our artisan ‘pasta.’ This is an high quality product, something that you hardly find in foreign countries stores. We personally collected the most famous and delicious types to offer to FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE fans as another way to enjoy Italian art. As for promotional campaign and due to high shipping costs of these items we decided to lower the prices for the next period in order to give the chance to everyone to enjoy these special products.
Here follows a little clip with our drummer Francesco Paoli showing how to cook it in the proper way. We are also excited to announce that we are shooting a brand new conceptual video for a song extracted from our last release. It will definitely stand up from the average as we are going to shoot it in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Sicilia. This region was part of Greece right in the era where the ‘Labyrinth of Knossos’ myth is collocated and our philological research led us there. It will be artistically deep and metaphorically intricate, a real reflection on the sense of our lives. Considering how big this matter is and how much we love our art, we decided to invest all the FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE pasta and wine profits in a big production video as well as in the future development of the band.

Obviously, all your support is really appreciated. Last but not least we will officially start the HUGE touring campaign in support of our new album »Labyrinth«. We will play all around the world, starting in Europe in January, continuing in Central America, Asia and Oceania in spring and coming back with an incredible tour in North America in the summer. Can't wait to bring the apocalypse once again all around the world! Finally, we want to thank you all for the unending support and for the massive trust in this band and its art."
»Labyrinth« was produced, mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio and hones in on the band's unique traits, giving fans everything they could hope for and more. Colin Marks (ORIGIN, KATAKLYSM) also created the cover artwork, as well as several pieces for a massive inlay. »Labyrinth« was released on August 16, 2013 in Europe and August 20, 2013 in North America via Nuclear Blast.

Check out the lyric video for the track ‘Minotaur (The Wrath Of Poseidon)’ here: http://youtu.be/oZiA2TrWtpo.

"The concept of this album is based on the myth of the Labyrinth of Knossos and every character related to it,” stated vocalist/guitarist Tommaso Riccardi recently. “We focused on the philological aspect in order to represent all the elements of the classic world and, through a manic and meticulous research, we managed to create a metaphor with our times, as the maze can be associated with the endless search for what we really are. We're sure you will be stunned by this as much as we are.”

FALCONER complete songwriting for new album and reveal album title!

Swedish Folk Metallers FALCONER have completed the songwriting for their upcoming, eighth album. Prepare yourselves for some classical FALCONER quality with all it's trademarks and their most metal album in years!

Comments guitarist Stefan Weinerhall: "The 8th album 'Black Moon Rising' is finally written. This time we have even made some preproductions of the material to test it out in advance. Some titles are: There's a crow on the barrow, Age of runes, Scoundrel and the squire. We will enter the studio in January and release it in June 2014. As said before all songs are in English this time after the last album's one-off with only Swedish songs.

It's for sure the most riff based album in many years and there are certainly some furious moments of brow raising on the album! If I would sum up the material with two words they would be: Intensity and revitalization.

We will keep it quite basic with no guest musicians and almost no keyboards to keep it raw, natural and unpretentious. Can't wait to enter the studio and put the finishing touches on the songs!"

ELDRITCH: New album and new song for streaming

‘Tasting The Tears’ is Progressive Metal masters Eldritch’s ninth studio album in their almost 20 year career. This time the whole band worked together as a team, arranging 11 brand new tracks melting each member’s influences into one direction. The result is 100% Eldritch: powerful guitars, melodic tunes and technical instrumental parts perfectly blended into a classic Progressive album with Hard Rock influences, thrashy and dark at intervals but, most importantly, remarkable in its own, unique way. The lyrics talk about love. Not standard love between two partners, but love in all its forms. Something the band have never done before. ‘Tasting The Tears’ has been produced by Eugene Simone at ES Studios in Livorno, Italy. Mixing and mastering duties have been handled by Simone Mularoni (DGM) at Domination Studios in San Marino, Italy. The album will be out February 18th, 2014 on Scarlet Records.

You can listen to the song 'Alone Again' from Eldritch's new album 'Tasting The Tears' here:

ONE MACHINE – Debut on Scarlet Records in February 2014

One Machine, the brainchild of acclaimed guitarist/songwriter Steve Smyth (Testament, Nevermore, Forbidden, Dragonlord, Vicious Rumors), have inked a deal with Scarlet Records for the release of their debut album, 'The Distortion Of Lies And The Overdriven Truth', to be released February 18th, 2014.

One Machine is an international metal band with classic and modern influences, featuring members carefully selected by Smyth: Mikkel Sandager (Mercenary) on vocals, Jamie Hunt (Biomechanical) sharing guitar duties, rounded out by a powerhouse rhythm section with Tomas “O’Beast” Koefoed (Mnemic) on bass guitar and Michele Sanna on drums (although former drummer Raphael Saini of Italian progressive metallers Chaoswave played on the album).

Smyth had often given thought to leading his own band throughout his distinguished career as a member of bands including Testament, Nevermore and Forbidden, amongst others. He had written a number of songs, but the challenge of finding the right members to bring them to life remained. He found a more than capable shredding second guitarist in Jamie Hunt, and the two began collaborating on the material Smyth had. “Jamie’s playing complements mine extremely well, and we hit it off perfectly when we got together to work on the songs” says Smyth. A vocalist was found in the form of original Mercenary singer Mikkel Sandager. He fit the kind of singer Smyth was looking for, with his versatile ability to sing in different ways, and his readiness to be pushed into new musical territories. “When our former bands toured together, I got to witness night after night, exactly what Mikkel could do; deliver a solid performance with an incredible range, as well as multiple characters in his voice. He’s perfect for this band!”

Smyth, Hunt, and Sandager then set about refining and shaping Smyth’s original material. In 2012, bassist Tomas “O’Beast” Koefoed, formerly of Mnemic, came on board, adding his distinctive sound to the tracks. “Tomas is without a doubt one of the most solid bassists I’ve encountered in some time! He literally added an entirely new dimension to these songs that would not have been possible to be achieved without him.”

'The Distortion Of Lies And The Overdriven Truth' was recorded and produced by Steve Smyth. Mixing was handled by Roy Z (Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, Halford), mastered by Alan Douches (Three Inches Of Blood, Firewind, Sepultura) from West West Side Music with artwork created by Niklas Sundin from Cabin Fever Media (Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy), complimented with photography from Anthony Dubois (Meshuggah, Mnemic).
