METAL NEWS FEBRUARY 2014

’Freiheit’ will be the last Dornenreich album for quite some time

Dornenreich’s upcoming eighth studio album “Freiheit” (english: “Freedom”; cover attached, release date tba) will be the band’s last album for quite some time. Mastermind Eviga comments on this issue in detail:
Dearest friends and companions,
We are approaching the finishing touches on the visual side of “Freiheit (Freedom),” Dornenreich’s eighth studio album which will be entrusted to you this spring – in the 18th year of our band history.
Soon we will present first samples!
As the cover art suggests, “Freiheit” is an album of thresholds, of transitions, of transformations; an album that makes a bold move towards the whole range of human emotion, thought, and being. This album is dedicated to the depth, diversity, and elemental beauty of being.
In my own personal view, “Freiheit” is an album of a great, encompassing power that unfolds itself as a whole and that makes me grateful and free as an artist and as a human being. Many things come full circle on this very album.
At the same time, “Freiheit” feels like a parting right now.
And as much as I feel that we will never stop to create artistically, and as much as it may be possible that this album will be seen as just a departure from a certain artistic evaluation or orientation, there are a lot of indications at this moment that “Freiheit” is going to be Dornenreich’s last studio album for quite some time.
Dornenreich, as I have stressed time and again, is obliged to life. And I am convinced that our expression, in its musical and lyrical essence, is timeless and develops its emotional urgency especially within a live context – thus, we will return to the stages for very special performances in the next years.
So this is by no means an absolute farewell. It is merely the end of a long journey, a homecoming, a discovery - that one day may be the starting point of another journey, another transformation ... life will tell. And now join us in anticipation of this year, of this eighth Dornenreich album which is so valuable to us, and of the spring tour when we all shall meet again!
With gratitude, love, and respect
Eviga
Further news on „Freiheit” soon.

ASTRA - NEW ALBUM 'BROKEN BALANCE'

Progressive metallers Astra have announced their return on the scene with their third, long waited album ‘Broken Balance’, following the critically acclaimed ‘About Me: Through Life And Beyond’ (2006) and ‘From Within’ (2009). The foursome, centered around keyboard wizard Emanuele Casali (DGM), have renovated their sound to make it less focused on the virtuosity of its members and more on a collective effort to write great songs with strong, memorable choruses. The lyrical concept itself evolves around the different meanings of “change”, as each of these 12 new songs suggest. The guitar riffs range from Symphony X's precision to Queensryche’s late-eighties/early nineties vibe. The vocal arrangements are superb, suggesting a feel for the best in current metal production but also an appreciation for classic art rock like Queen or Styx, something that most progressive-minded acts lack nowadays. 2014 may shape up to be a good year for Progressive Metal.

'Broken Balance' will be available starting April 15th, 2014.

TEMPERANCE - DEBUT ALBUM ANNOUNCED

Temperance is a new star in the Heavy Metal universe, born from the dedication and efforts of a group of musicians with more than a decade of experience in the scene, hundreds of concerts played with the likes of Rhapsody Of Fire, Dragonforce, Parkway Drive, Leave’s Eyes and Rage to name a few, and a renovated desire to make an impact. The band’s self titled debut album consists of an amazing mixture of tight, heavy guitar riffs, electronics and folk elements, bounded together in the name of melody and power. ‘Temperance’ was mixed and mastered by renowned musician/producer Simone Mularoni (DGM) at Domination Studio in San Marino, Italy. This is not your average metal band with female vocals. Temperance are here to make a difference. And they will take no prisoners.

'Temperance' will be available starting April 15th, 2014.

Downfall Of Gaia announce new drummer

DOWNFALL OF GAIA is happy to have found a new drummer.
Let the band take over the introduction:

"We are very happy to announce that our good friend Michael Kadnar from New York will be the new face behind the drums of Downfall of Gaia and all of us couldn't be more excited to have him on board! We got to know Mike on our last tour through the United States with his other band Black Table and the chemistry just felt right! Around that time we had no idea that we will meet up again so soon! It might sound weird to some people to add a drummer from New York to a band that's based in Germany, but for us it feels like the right and best decision! Plans for 2014 have been made and the flights have been booked! Some amazing stuff is coming up in the next couple of months and we are looking forward to a new chapter! The songwriting for a new record will start in a few weeks and a new record can be expected for later this year!"

Comments Michael Kadnar: "I was fortunate enough to tour the US opening for Downfall of Gaia with my band Black Table in summer 2013. Both bands had really good chemistry and we kept in touch after the tour was over. When I heard that Downfall was looking for a drummer, I emailed Peter and jokingly said "I'm your guy, fly me out haha." Our conversation quickly got serious when Peter said the search wasn't going too well and proceeded to ask me if I was interested in being their touring drummer. After the initial shock wore off, I gladly accepted, and after a few more conversations they decided to bring me on as a full time member. I'm very excited and it's an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to write and perform with these talented Gentlemen!"

DOWNFALL OF GAIA live:
20/06/14 FR - Clisson - Hellfest
21-25/07/14 SI - Tolmin - Metal Days
