THE BURNING: Hail The Horde

‘Hail The Horde’ is the third release by Danish thrash-core quartet The Burning. This hard-hitting four-piece band is one of the leading bands in the Danish hard-core scene and this latest release, produced by Jacob Bredahl, known for his work with Hatesphere, is surely the band’s heaviest effort to date.
The Danish boys come up with a unique mix of Pantera, Sepultura and Helmet. From start to finish the band delivers a raw and powerful album. There is no time to breathe and sit back. And that’s how an uncompromising thrash album should sound. The guys surely master their instruments, but special attention should be given to “octopus’’ Toby Hoest. Together with drum recording engineer Tue Madsen (Sick Of It All) he delivers a world class performance. “For the first time we went into the studio and had more songs than we needed for this album,†says singer Johnny Haven. And this surely paid off. All songs are absolute winners in the genre.
‘Hail The Horde’ is a fine album and will please most fans of the genre. However, to convince others, a bit more variety and adventure would have been a good idea. Also thumbs up for the brilliant art work by Brent Elliot White, famous for his work with Megadeth.
Overall a fine thrash-core release. Strong, powerful and honest.

Met ‘Hail The Horde’ laat het Deense thrashcore kwartet The Burning haar derde cd los op de wereld. Deze wild om zich heen meppende band, behoort tot de absolute top in het Deense wereldje van de heavy rock. Dit nieuwe album, geproduceerd door Jacob Bredahl, bekend van zijn knoppenwerk bij Hatesphere, is ongetwijfeld het hardste album dat de jongens onder onze deur schoven.
Het geluid van de band laat zich het best omschrijven als een mengeling van Pantera, Sepultura en Helmet. Vanaf het openingsnummer ‘Godless’ tot de afsluiter ‘Disownment’ wordt er flink geknald zonder dat de luisteraar een ogenblik rust wordt gegund. En zo hoort het ook bij een lekker ‘core-album’. Vooral vellengeselaar Toby Hoest levert, onder auspiciën van drum recording engineer Tue Madsen, een wereldprestatie. “Voor het eerst hadden we een heleboel songs klaar waar we uit konden kiezen,†vertelt zanger Johnny Haven. En dat hoor je ook. Twaalf brokken lekker knallend thrash geweld zijn het resultaat.
‘Hail The Horde’ is een meer dan behoorlijk thrash album, dat het hart van menig liefhebber in het genre sneller zal doen slaan. Om ook extra zielen te winnen buiten het genre mist het album toch een beetje variatie en avontuur. Toch een fijn album en een aanrader. Ook het fraaie hoesje, van Brent Elliot White, bekend voor zijn werk voor Megadeth, is een extra vermelding waard.
Besluit: mooi uitgegeven, stevig klinkend en een eerlijk thrash-core album.
