IVORY MOON: Human Nature

Ivory Moon was formed in the summer of 2000, in Italy, and in May 2002 they released their first promo CD. The response from the international press was excellent, and led to a number of concerts in Italy, Spain and Greece. In early 2004, the debut album, “On The Edge of Time†was released. The album took Ivory Moon to a higher level, and an overwhelming response. Late 2005, the line-up changed, and the band started to work on new material for the next album. During 2006, Ivory Moon recorded “Human Nature†at the Temple of Noise Studios in Rome, mixed and mastered by Christian Ice. With a great record in hand, early 2007 a deal was signed with Ulterium Records of Sweden. The sound of Ivory Moon can be described as epic symphonic metal, but you can expect a lot more than that only! With the dual vocals of Cecilia Serra and Sandro Manicone; they created a diverse album, both vocally and musically. From start on I was impressed by their music. Characteristic for Ivory Moon is that the male vocals dominate the female singer and musically they created a combination of nice piano tunes and sometimes almost soundtrack-like compositions. The interaction between Sandro and the female singer Cecilia is perfect and they challenge each other to express themselves and using their voices in their best ways. It seems like Tarja (ex-Nightwish) has a new competitor! The compositions contain bombastic passages, a lot of rough changes, fast drum parts but also nice melodies, strings and choirs. “Human Nature†will surely appeal to fans of Hammerfall, Nightwish and Epica, as well as fans of progressive and symphonic metal but the band distinguishes itself by combining power metal with a slight touch of gothic metal and can handle themselves pretty well in the metal world. With a great album like “Human Nature†and competent band members Ivory Moon’s future shines bright!

Het Italiaanse Ivory Moon werd opgericht in de zomer van 2000, en in mei 2002 zag hun eerste promo CD rees het daglicht. Deze werd uitmuntend ontvangen door de internationale pers en leidde tot meerdere optredens in Italië, Spanje & Zweden. In het voorjaar van 2004 werd het debuut “On The Edge of Time†uitgebracht dewelke Ivory Moon tot een nog hoger niveau bracht met een overweldigende respons. Tegen het einde van 2005 na enkele bezettingwijzigingen startte de groep met het componeren van nieuw materiaal. In de loop van 2006 dook Ivory Moon dan de Temple of Noise Studios te Rome in om “Human Nature†op te nemen onder de technische leiding van Christian Ice. Met een geweldige schijf in handen bekwamen ze uiteindelijk ook een deal bij Ulterium Records uit Zweden. De sound van Ivory Moon kan nog het best omschreven worden als epische symfonische metal, maar je kan ook zeker meer verwachten dan enkel dit! Door gebruik te maken van duo vocalen van Cecilia Serra en Sandro Manicone; onderscheid dit album zich van de andere, dit zowel vocaal alsook muzikaal. Van meet af aan werd ik door de muziek bij de keel gegrepen en deed deze CD al meermaals zijn toeren in mijn CD speler. Typerend voor Ivory Moon is dat de mannelijke vocalen van Sandro de vrouwelijke vocalen van Cecilia domineren, en muzikaal vormt het een combinatie van mooie pianomelodieën en soms soundtrack-achtige stukken. De interactie tussen Sandro en vocaliste Cecilia is perfect en ze dagen elkaar voortdurend uit om het beste van zichzelf te geven. Het ziet er zelfs naar uit dat Tarja (Ex-Nightwish) er een kompaan bij heeft gekregen. Qua composities zijn er owel bombastische passages, vele ruwe kantjes, snelle drumpartijen alsook zachtere melodieën, violen en koren te bespeuren. “Human Nature†zal zeker de fans van Hammerfall, Nightwish en Epica kunne bekoren maar evengoed de progressieve & symfonische metal fans. Ivory Moon onderscheid zich echter van anderen door power metal te combineren met een tintje gothic metal en zullen zichzelf best wel weten te bewijzen binnen de metal scene. Met een knap album als “Human Nature†en talentvolle muzikanten is de toekomst voor Ivory Moon verzekerd.
