English: This is a compilation of the English veterans of Magnum, but not the usual one: they have put some efforts in it. Some instruments or sometimes even the vocals are re-recorded in the current line-up, details can be found under this review. In addition they mixed everything again in a different manner. They have chosen for a chronological order: two songs every time from respectively albums like ‘Breath Of Life’ (2002), ‘Brand New Morning’ (2004), ‘Princess Alice & The Broken Arrow’ (2007), ‘Into The Valley Of The Moonking’ (2009) and ‘The Visitation’ (2011). This means that we can only find songs written after the reunion in 2000, since they were signed by SPV.
The quality of these songs is beyond dispute. They also added two new songs. ‘The Fall’ is an up-tempo song with galloping rhythms. Kind of riding a horse in the Highlands. ‘Do You Know Who You Are?’ slowly slips into the room on a bed of smooth keyboards and guitars, slowly turning into a typical storytelling Magnum track. Nothing new I should say, yet proper material for Magnum fans.
The band, with the heartfelt voice of Bob Catley and the writing talents of guitarist extraordinary Tony Clarkin has a career of almost forty years going on and they are still very active, in the studio as well as live. There is only one conclusion: respect!
Men houdt er een ordelijke keuze op na: telkens twee songs van respectievelijk de albums ‘Breath Of Life’ (2002), ‘Brand New Morning’ (2004), ‘Princess Alice & The Broken Arrow’ (2007), ‘Into The Valley Of The Moonking’ (2009) en ‘The Visitation’ (2011).
