We all know that the sympathetic Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande lives for music and his heart goes out to classical hard rock of the seventies and eighties. After achieving a worldwide reputation by contributing on numerous projects and being part of several bands for a while, most recently Masterplan, Jorn preferred a solo career. Several albums were released in this quality and now we have a double live album.
The concert was recorded on September, 16th 2006 at the infamous ProgPower festival in Atlanta. With a drumsolo and guitarsolo of his skilful band members as separate “songsâ€, it properly breathes a live-in-the-eighties spirit. But of course it are mainly the songs and the Voice that make the concert a joyful evening. Jorn has an amazing voice indeed. Whether he sings songs of his own, or he dedicates himself to a Whitesnake medley, or he sings the Deep Purple song ‘Perfect Strangers’; it is always high grade performance. Although I am so used to the Deep Purple version, that I prefer the old one. There are three studio songs on the second disc: a new version of ‘Out To Every Nation’, a passionate Black Sabbath medley and ‘Sacrificial Feelings’. This is the evidence that classic hard rock still can be captivating and therefore highly recommended.

We weten allemaal dat de sympathieke Noorse zanger Jorn Lande leeft voor de muziek en zijn hart gaat uit naar klassieke hardrock uit de jaren zeventig en tachtig. Nadat hij een wereldberoemde reputatie had opgebouwd door mee te werken aan vele projecten en tijdelijk deel uit te maken van verschillende bands, meest recentelijk nog Masterplan, koos Jorn voor een solocarrière. Er verschenen al meerdere albums in die hoedanigheid en nu is er een dubbel live album.
Het concert werd opgenomen op 16 september 2006 toen Jorn hoofdact was op het befaamde ProgPower festival in Atlanta. Met de drumsolo en gitaarsolo van zijn uitstekende begeleiders als aparte “nummers†ademt dit helemaal een jaren tachtig live sfeer uit. Maar natuurlijk zijn het vooral de nummers en de stem die vorm geven aan dit prachtige concert. Jorn heeft nu eenmaal een machtige stem. Of hij nu eigen nummers zingt, opgaat in een Whitesnake medley of de Deep Purple track ‘Perfect Strangers’; het is altijd genieten geblazen al ben ik zo gewoon aan de Deep Purple versie dat ik die toch nog net iets beter vind. Er staan ook drie studio tracks op het tweede schijfje: een nieuwe versie van ‘Out To Every Nation’, een passionele Black Sabbath medley en ‘Sacrificial Feelings’. Dit is een bewijs dat classic hard rock nog best meeslepend kan zijn en dus warm aanbevolen.
