LA VENTURA: A New Beginning

La-Ventura was earlier these months under the attention at Metal-nose in the concert review of Meadow fest and in the interview section while Jany and I had a small talk with the vocalist Carla Douw. I promised to come back with a review of this Debut album so here it is. The band was founded by ex-Orphanage drummer Erwin Polderman and vocalist Carla Douw and everything started well by their Myspace where they are getting a great and positive response. La Ventura was signed by an American label but things didn’t turned out well they terminated their contract due to inadequate work and lack of progress by them in terms of this release. In the meantime La Ventura has released their debut on the 6th of October, presented their new album “A New Beginning†at the Lostkey Festival along with the showing of our video “Trefoil†and is still searching for more gig’s to promote this album. They also have been invited to the Mindview Metal Convention on the 4th of November in Belgium, to do an acoustic performance! About the album…
A charismatic singer with passion in her voice, melancholic and mystical, atmospheric synths and piano, heavy guitar riffs and a groovy rhythm section that’s the main features of La-Ventura. A mixture of the typical gothic style from the Netherlands and metal elements. In one way or another you can compare them with Within Temptation – Lacuna Coil – Sengir but with a refreshing sound and more catchy hooks and melodies. “Deadline†is a great song to open the album and gives you a perfect idea of where the band stands for. Also “Memoria†and “Only Love Will Find It’s Way†are from the same level. “Trefoil†was chosen as their first single and will be promoted with a video clip. To my opinion the right choice with the same quality of Within Temptation’s “Ice Queenâ€. “Remind You†is a more piano ballad with atmospheric synths in the back. Once more this song shows you what the capabilities of Carla’s clear voice. Musically spoken every note and melody fits perfectly in each and every composition. Listen to the title track “A New Beginning†or instance. I listened to the album for several times right now and there was not just one point that disappointed me. La Ventura is a band that can be a major act in no time and the interest in this band grows minute by minute. La-Ventura brachten we bij metal-nose al eerder in de aandacht in een concert review van Meadow Fest en in de interview sectie oen Jany & Ik de kans kregen een interview te doen met Carla Douw. Ik beloofde toen om op dit debuut terug te komen en dat gebeurt dus bij deze. De groep werd opgericht dor ex-Orphanage drummer Erwin Polderman en vocaliste Carla Douw. Alles begon pas echt als een trein te lopen via hun Myspace waar de groep niets dan positieve reacties kreeg. La Ventura stond voor een tijdje geteknd bij een Amerikaans label maar de dingen liepen niet zoals het hoorde en ze beëindigde dit contract door het niet professioneel handelen aangaande dit debuutalbum. De groep bracht dit debuut dus volledig in eigen beheer uit op 6 oktober en stelde de “A New Beginning†CD ook voor op het Loskey Festival samen met de video clip “Trefoilâ€. Momenteel is de groep op zoek naar meerdere optredens om dit album te promoten. Ze zijn ook uitgenodigd op de Mindview Metal Conventie op 4 november te Beveren Waas (B) waar ze die middag een akoestische set zullen brengen. Over het album dan…
Een charismatische zangeres met passionele stem, melancholisch en tegelijk mystiek, muzikaal voorzien van sfeerrijke synths en piano partijen ondersteund door stevige gitaar riffs en een groovy ritme sectie is de omschrijving die nog het best past bij dit debuut. Een mix van de typische Nederlandse gothic stijl vermengt met moderne metal elementen. Je zou ze kunnen vergelijken met groepen als Within Temptation – Lacuna Coil – Sengir maar met een verfrissend geluid dat meerdere pakkende kantjes en melodieën bezit. “Deadline†is de perfecte opener voor deze plaat en geeft meteen een idee van waar La Ventura voor staat. Ook “Memoria†& Only Love Will Find It’s Way†zijn van een zelfde niveau. “Trefoil†werd de eerst single keuze, geeft een perfect beeld van wat de groep te bieden heeft en zal gepromoot worden door een video clip. Naar mijn mening de juiste keuze met een zelfde kwaliteit als Within Temptation’s “Ice Queenâ€. “Remind You†is een op piano gerichte ballade met sfeervolle synths in de achtergrond. Eens te meer toont ook deze songs de capaciteiten van Carla’s heldere stemgeluid. Muzikaal gezien past elke noot en elk melodietje perfect in elke compositie; luister maar eens naar “A New Beginning†bijvoorbeeld. Ik beluisterde dit debuut nu al enige malen en er ws niet één punt dat me teleur stelde. La Ventura is een groep die zomaar vanuit het niets plots groot kan worden en de status ‘Hoofdact’ kan bekomen.
Hou zeker de concertdatums op hun website in het oog, ik verzeker je dat je niet teleurgesteld terugkeert!
