TOKYO DRAGONS: Hot Nuts

Steve Lomax, fellow guitarist Mal Bruk and drummer Phil Martini are old friends. They went through the usual set of no-hope line-ups, before realising that the way forward was to relight the spark of rock´n´roll. The first real Tokyo Dragons line-up was completed when Ade Easily offered up himself for the job as bass player. Which meant twin lead guitars, and meant that the spirit of Thin Lizzy could be more easily evoked. Ade left the band in March 2005 and new bassist Stady completes the line up of Tokyo Dragons. This band were made to play rock´n´roll and they´ve done it all with English charm and good manners, for even gentlemen can Rock. As soon as they get on stage the pedal is down, the foot´s on it and the monster that is the Tokyo Dragons is careering out of control. “Hot Nuts†is their follow up to their acclaimed debut “Give Me The Fear†from 2005. This “Hot Nuts†is a real Rockbuster in the classic sound of bands like AC/DC – Motorhead – Scorpions & Thin Lizzy. Every of this ten tracks is a groovy barnstorming rock and roll song that crank you up and a killer on his own. Good Old (Hard)rock & roll like it sounded in the mid 70 and early 80’s. Included on this album is also a cover of Todd Rundgren’s “Couldn’t I Just Tell Youâ€. There’s no need to say more about this one if you know hat the album is produced by Kurt Bloch which also produced some albums for Mudhoney- Nashville Pussy – Supersuckers – etc….

Steve Lomax, bevriend guitarist Mal Bruk en drummer Phil Martini zijn oude vrienden. Samen gingen ze dor tal van bezettingen zonder enig uitzicht alvorens ze realiseerde dat de enige weg vooruit die van de vonk van rock ‘n’ roll was. De eerste echte Tokyo Dragons bezetting was complete toen Ade Easily zichzelf aanbood als bassist. Dit betekende dat een twin gitaar geluid realiseerbaar was en de Thin Lizzy sound kon nagestreeft worden. Ade verliet de groep in maart 2005 en werd vervangen door nieuwe bassist Matthias Stady. Tokyo Dragonsis een band gemaakt om rock ‘n’ roll te spelen en dat doen ze met enige Engelse charme, goed gemanierd zoals een gentlemen rockt. Zodra de band het podium op gaat is het ‘pedal to the metal’ en komt het rock ‘n’ roll monster in hen boven. “Hot Nuts†is de opvolger van hun gerespecteerd debuut “Give Me The Fear†uit 2005. Deze “Hot Nuts†is een echte ‘rockbuster’ met een geluid als datgene van AC/DC – Motorhead – Scorpions & Thin Lizzy. Elk van de tien nummers is een meeslepende geheugenspoelende rock ‘n’ roll track die je opkrikt. Goede oude (hard)rock ‘n’ roll zoals hij klonk anno midden 70’er jaren en begin 80. Op dit album is ook een coverversie van Todd Rundgren’s “Couldn’t I Just Tell You†te horen. Als je weet dat het album ingeblikt wed door Kurt Bloch die ook al werkte voor Mudhoney- Nashville Pussy – Supersuckers – etc… valt er over deze release nog weinig te zeggen en weet je meteen ook hoe die klinkt.
