English:

The re-release of the album, ‘Unleashed the Beast’, appears at the same time as the DVD , ‘To Hell and Back Again’.

This album from Saxon originally appeared in 1997. It is less known because, like many other traditional Hard Rock bands, it was experiencing an identity crisis. This is a solid album, even though the style is outside of the borders. The songs are darker and more threatening than before. Biff screams his lungs out on some songs and the style varies from the usual Saxon material to some very catchy and aggressive AC/DC stuff.

This was the first album with Doug Scarratts as guitarist and co-writer. There were new paths taken here and there which set the tone for the future of the band. These songs gave direction to the later work of Saxon. ‘Unleashed the Beast’ is a milestone for Saxon and it has withstood the test of time. There is a bonus track with two live songs, but whether or not this is sufficient enough to reel in the fans is another story. If you don’t yet have this album in your collection, then buying this CD will certainly be no mistake. The best songs are “Terminal Velocity”, “Unleash the Beast” and “Absent Friends”.

Nederlands:

Sterkste songs: “Terminal Velocity”, “Unleash The Beast” & “Absent Friends”.
