UNISONIC: Light Of Dawn

I was over the moon with the single ‘For The Kingdom’ that was released a couple of months ago as a teaser for this new (second) album by Unisonic. It is a fantastic album in every way: good songs, good playing and a brilliant production by Dennis Ward. This intermediate band by Gamma Ray front man Kai Hansen is nothing less than a so called ‘supergroup’ with Michael Kiske, Dennis Ward and Kosta Zafiriou. Guitarist Mandy Meyer (Krokus, Asia, Cobra, ...) makes this golden line-up complete. It’s kind of ironic that these musicians seem to cross ways in every direction. Current Helloween singer Andy Deris is ex-Pink Cream 69 whereas Hansen and Kiske are ex-Helloween. Ward is also the bass player in PC 69 and Zafiriou is ex-PC 69! There we go! These five musicians are a great match, the sound is nothing less than perfect and everyone performs at top level. It’s a long time ago that I heard an album of this quality in this genre. This is powerful classic hard rock with a melodic approach which potential to crossover towards a wider audience. Go find this out for yourself!

Enkele maanden geleden waren we vol lof over de single ‘Over The Moon’ die als appetizer moest dienen voor deze nieuwe door Dennis Ward geproduceerde (tweede) full cd van Unisonic. Deze hobbyband van Gamma Ray gitarist Kai Hansen is niets minder dan een supergroep met Michael Kiske, Andy Ward en Kosta Zafiriou. Als glazuur op de cake is er ook nog gitarist Mandy Meyer (Krokus, Asia, Cobra, …). Het is grappig hoe deze muzikanten verstrengeld zijn via met hun individuele geschiedenis. De huidige zanger van Helloween Andy Deris is ex-Pink Cream 69, terwijl Hansen en Kiske ex-Helloween zijn. Ward is de bassist van Pink Cream 69 en Zafiriou is ook al ex-Pink Cream 69. Deze vijf muzikanten blenden op een schitterende wijze, hun sound is niets minder dan perfect en iedereen levert werk op topniveau. De songs zijn stuk voor stuk de moeite waard. Dit is krachtige melodieuze klassieke hardrock met cross-over kwaliteiten die we in lange tijd niet meer hebben gehoord. Doe jezelf een plezier en ga voor dit pareltje!
