English:

A few weeks ago Rudy ‘Shark’ Vercruysse died, guitarist in the Ghent and Belgian metal icon Ostrogoth, leaving drummer Mario Pauwels as only original member left. Rudy’s last recordings are on this posthumous ‘Last Tribe Standing’, which is their first album since 1987.

The opening song starts slowly before swelling in crescendo, but in ‘Cloud’ they shift a few gears higher. Since ‘Return To Heroes Museum’ contains musical as well as lyrical references to the original song (featured on the live part of this record), it sounds pretty familiar. Finally, the title song impresses with its mix of experiment and creating a mood, adorned with exquisite guitar. After that we hear them play their first EP ‘Full Moon’s Eyes’ (83) live. The recordings, dating from last year, are quite all right, but I sadly miss the voice of original singer Red Star.

Before listening, I was curious and skeptical, but it’s a nice surprise to find this old band still writing great songs.

Nederlands:
