TALON: Fourplay

Although the title suggests otherwise, this is the fifth album by American melodic rockers Talon. They may be melodic and build on the AOR tradition, but they are certainly not wimpy. Their well crafted songs are played with energy and solid arrangements. The genre may be explored to the full, but Talon manages to make another enjoyable album that will enlighten even more a sunny day. The guitars wail around and the grooves are stimulating and Michael O’Mara is a fine vocalist and potent rock singer. Talon will not change the course of rock music, nor will they take the melodic genre a step further, but who cares if the quality of the songs and performance are this good.

Alhoewel de titel van de plaat iets anders suggereert, is dit het vijfde album van Talon. De band mag dan wel worden geplaatst in het hokje van de melodieuze rock en de AOR traditie, ze zijn in elk geval niet melig. Hun goed geschreven songs worden energiek en met overtuiging gebracht. De grooves zitten lekker in de solide arrangementen. Dit genre is reeds in alle mogelijke richtingen geëxploreerd, maar Talon slaagt er toch maar mooi in om een plaat te maken die een zonnige dag nog dat beetje extra zal bieden. De gitaren spetteren en zanger Michael O’Mara is een knappe zanger en potente rocker. Talon gaat de evolutie van de rock niet beïnvloeden, noch het genre nieuwe wegen doen inslaan, maar met songs en uitvoeringen van dit kaliber deert dat ons niet.
