‘The 13th Chapter’, from the Dutch band Dreamside, is a collection of new, re-written and known material. It leans in the direction of Industrial, Gothic music with those usual beats that make it more attractive to a wider audience. ‘The 13th Chapter’ can really stand up to this kind of re-mixing, unlike some of the other similar type albums that I’ve reviewed. Compositionally, the songs are very solid, professional and danceable, as well. It’s obvious that this band is aiming at both the Gothic and Discotheque audience. There’s nothing wrong with this, but I just don’t know if these two can be combined. I don’t know many Metal fans that have Dance music in their CD collection. Like I had said, this is a pretty good album that contains a few really beautiful Dance songs. Some of the vocals in some of The Dreamside songs reminded me of Earth&Fire. That band knew how to successfully combine Disco and Rock and made some very solid songs. If you are a music lover with a wide scope in musical tastes, then this CD is certainly worth a try!

‘The 13th Chapter’ van de Nederlandse band The Dreamside is een verzameling van nieuw, herwerkt en gekende materiaal. Dit is erg tegen Industrial aanleunende Gothic muziek voorzien van de nodige beats om het allemaal wat aanlokkelijker te maken voor het grotere publiek. In vergelijking met andere al besproken soortgelijke albums kan deze ‘The 13th Chapter’ echter wel dit soort remixen verdragen. De songs, die compositorisch erg sterk zijn, komen professioneel maar ook zeer dansbaar over. Het is dus duidelijk dat deze band niet alleen mikt op het Gothic maar ook op het Discotheek publiek. Op zich is daar niets mis mee, alleen weet ik niet of dit verenigbaar is. Ik ken namelijk maar heel weinig metal fans met dance muziek in hun cd verzameling. Nochtans is, zoals al gezegd, dit zeker geen slecht album en staan er enkele zeer mooie dansbare songs op. Het moet me nog even van het hart dat, onder andere door het stemtimbre van de zangeres in meerdere songs, The Dreamside me aan Earth & Fire deed denken. Die band wist destijds ook al disco en rock door elkaar te mengen en bleef toch erg sterke nummers maken. Voor de liefhebbers met een ruimere smaak zeker het proberen waard!
