HARBOUR OF SOULS: Mountain Of Fire (EP)

Harbour Of Souls is a Dutch band, in 2010 starting as studio project of guitarist Jesper and singer/drummer Martin. The latter one does only vocals in the current line-up, since they soon expanded into a five-piece band with self-written songs. Four of them are recorded at The Void Studios in Eindhoven with producer Peter Kloos and they are the first encounter on the self-released EP ‘Mountain Of Fire’.
Harbour Of Souls plays fine and fervent hard rock, that’s what we notice in the sturdy ‘Mountain Of Fire’ with its excellent guitar solos. Also ‘In For The Night’ happens to be up-tempo, with slightly agreeable blues influences in guitar skills. One could even talk of boogie rock in ‘Set The Children Free’, while the twin guitar soloing of Jesper and Daniël more than once refers to Thin Lizzy. ‘Safe’ has any flaws, mainly due to vocals, but that’s the only point where there is room for improvement. Furthermore this is a nice start of a sympathetic band.

Harbour Of Souls is een Nederlandse band, in 2010 gestart als studioproject van gitarist Jesper en zanger/drummer Martin. Deze laatste neemt nu alleen de zang voor zijn rekening, want weldra ontstond een vijfkoppige band met eigen nummers. Vier daarvan zijn opgenomen in The Void studio in Eindhoven met producer Pieter Kloos en vormen een eerste kennismaking op de in eigen beheer uitgebrachte ep ‘Mountain Of Fire’.
Harbour Of souls speelt lekker vurige hard rock, dat merken we in het stevige ‘Mountain Of Fire’ met zijn gierende gitaarsolo’s. Ook ‘In For The Night’ is uptempo, met lichte en aangename bluesinvloeden in het gitaarwerk. Je zou zelfs van boogierock kunnen spreken in ‘Set The Children Free’, terwijl het twingitaarwerk van Jesper en Daniël meer dan eens aan Thin Lizzy doet denken. ‘Safe’ kent wat mindere momenten en dat ligt vooral aan de zang, maar dat is dan ook het enige puntje waarop nog verbetering wenselijk is. Verder een mooi visitekaartje van een leuke band.
