INISHMORE: The Lemming Project

This Swiss bunch already made three albums of which the last one ‘Three Colours Black’ was released in 2004. The power quintet in fact makes a new start, meanwhile reinforced by singer Michela.
In the average opener she uses her sturdy rock voice, but in the next one she shows to be able to handle softer chords as well. Finally comes ‘Better Off Dead’, a catchy song in which she reminds a bit of Doro. The ironic ‘Love Song’ opens surprisingly with a folk intro and mixes further on acoustic, folk and metal. In ‘Game’, with some fine guitar work and distorted voice, some piano carefully creeps into the power. All fine melodic stuff, but it’s only in ‘Eternal Wanderer’ we find a true highlight, mainly due to the keyboards, with rich guitars, while some male vocals are added. Catchy again, ‘Red Lake’ has some electronic sounds in the mix. Then comes the sensitive and mainly acoustic ‘Lonely shadows’ with some folk strings. In the epic title track they again add male vocals and merge folk, acoustic, power and swelling keyboards into a great melodic experience of 12’ with space for modesty as well as heaviness.
A bit disappointing album because of the unequal quality of the songs.

Deze Zwitsers maakten al drie albums, waarvan het laatste ‘Three Colours Black’ alweer van 2004 dateert. Het power vijftal maakt dus enigszins een nieuwe start, inmiddels versterkt door zangeres Michela.
In de modale power van de opener gebruikt ze haar steviger rockstem, maar in het volgende laat ze bij wijlen horen ook zachtere registers aan te kunnen. Pas in ‘Better off Dead’ krijgen we een catchy nummer waarin ze wat aan Doro doet denken. Het ironische ‘Love Song’ opent verassend met een folk intro en mengt verder akoestisch, folk en metal. In ‘Game’, met mooi gitaarwerk en vervormde stem, sluipt voorzichtig wat piano in de power metal. Alles mooi melodieus, maar het duurt tot ‘Eternal Wanderer’ voor we een echt prijsbeest vinden, vooral door de keyboard partij, met rijke gitaar en toevoeging van wat mannenstem. Weer catchy, heeft ‘Red Lake’ wat elektronische geluiden in de mix. Daarna komt het gevoelige en grotendeels akoestische ‘Lonely Shadows’ met wat folk strijkers. In het epische titelnummer komt er weer wat mannenstem bij en mengen ze folk, akoestisch, power en aangezwollen keyboard partijen in een groots melodieus evenement van 12’ met ruimte voor zowel ingetogenheid als heavy stuff.
Enigszins teleurstellend album door de te ongelijke kwaliteit van de nummers.
