MAUSOLEUM GATE: Metal And The Might (EP)

Mausoleum Gate is a Finnish band of which we reviewed the debut album in 2014. You can read our thoughts about that right here. The band was signed by Cruz del Sur and played at Keep It True festival where their hard-rock, based on the eighties, was welcomed with enthusiasm.
Now the finnish guys come up with two new songs. The compact ‘Metal And The Might’ is typical metal from the eighties, with an atmospheric intro en Manowar-like choirs as prologue. The Hammond organ, vintage sounding guitar solos and slightly shrill clean vocals completely suit the picture of bands at the time when Iron Maiden took its first steps. ‘Demon Soul’ happens to be a longer track, more epic with once again loads of keyboards in vintage style (Hammond, Mellotron, etc). Now they have recruited a proper bassist, so that Wicked Ischianus can focus on vintage keyboards. This is fine for the fans, but not more than that. An exclusive gem.

Mausoleum Gate is een Finse band waarvan we het debuutalbum in 2014 bespraken, dat kan je hier lezen. De band werd opgepikt door Cruz Del Sur en kon op het Keep It True festival spelen waar hun hardrock, geënt op de jaren tachtig vast prima ontvangen werd.
Nu komen de Finnen met twee nieuwe songs. Het compacte ‘Metal And The Might’ is metal uit de jaren tachtig, met een atmosferisch intro en Manowar koren als intrede. De Hammond orgel, vintage klinkende gitaarsolo’s en ietwat schelle cleane zang past helemaal in het plaatje van bands toen we Iron Maiden ontdekten. ‘Demon Soul’ is een wat langere track, meer episch met eveneens veel toetsenwerk in vintage stijl. Men heeft nu een bassist aangeworven zodat Wicked Ischianus zich op de vintage keyboards kan focussen. Leuk, maar ook niet meer dan dat.
