PSYCHEDELIC WITCHCRAFT: The Vision

Psychedelic Witchcraft was founded March 2015 with frontwoman Virginia Monti leading the quartet. Inspiration was found in the seventies, the occult and witchcraft.
‘Creature’ opens with a dark riff and we’re plunged in an anguished atmosphere of gloomy hard rock. ‘Witches’ offers the same pattern of atmosphere, riff and the clean vocals of Virginia straight from the early seventies (a bit like the singer of Shocking Blue), but with blues accent. ‘Demon’ sounds somewhat lighter, but has again that authentic retro-hard rock feel, including a solo making me think of Hendrix. And so they continue convincingly, past a heavy ‘The Night’, the slower ‘The Only One That’, the hardest and most psychedelic ‘War’,… ‘Magic Hour Blues’ closes with some fine slow blues.
Very convincing retro hard rock with doom touch.

Psychedelic Witchcraft werd opgericht in maart 2015 met frontvrouw Virginia Monti als boegbeeld van het kwartet. Inspiratie komt uit de seventies, het occulte en tovenarij.
‘Creature’ opent met een duistere riff en we komen terecht in een beklemmend sfeertje van donkere hardrock. ‘Witches’ biedt hetzelfde patroon van sfeer, riff en cleane stem van Virginia die zó uit de vroegere seventies komt (beetje als de zangeres van Shocking Blue), maar een blues accent. ‘Demon’ is wat lichter in aard, maar heeft weer dat authentieke retro-hardrock gevoel, inclusief een gitaarsolo die aan Hendrix deed denken. En zo gaan ze overtuigend verder, langs een heavy ‘The Night’, het trage ‘The Only One That’, het hardste én meest psychedelische ‘War’,… ‘Magic Hour Blues’ sluit af met wat fijne trage blues.
Erg overtuigende retro hardrock met doom inslag.
