Secret Rule was founded in 2014 with the intention to create a powerful, melodic and rhythmically challenging sound. ‘Transposed Emotions’ was last year’s debut and already they’ve come up with the sophomore album.

‘Ex-Machina’ has a sombre pretty gothic sound with intricate keyboard layers in the background, fine soloing and the powerful voice of Angela. ‘Saviour’ is a faster and more nervous heavy piece with bombastic backing vocals and Angela using her voice more diversely. After a sombre ‘Sun’, catchy ‘Dolls’ rushes forward with some grunt as backing and again the great keys all over the place. The sturdier ‘Will’ even has heavy prog passages and melancholic guitar. ‘Image’s start offers a great peaceful haven and grows into sympho grandeur. In the rather calm ‘Trap’ they mix some industrial under the sympho. ‘Foolish’ gets a rough topping with some grunt. ‘Stories’ has superb keys and ‘Mother’ closes introspectively with sensitive soprano from Angela.

Great sound and performance, but too soon forgotten … nevertheless a band to watch!
