Dreamwaves is a new British quartet that makes its debut with a four track EP. Their type of music is not often produced in the UK, most of these kind of bands hail from Europe or America. Still they have an element in their music that makes me think of Yes guitar hero Steve Howe. If he played heavy fusion metal influenced rock, this would be the outcome I think. These are good musicians with four good pieces of music that show that they do not only master their instruments, but that they also can write a tune that holds the attention of the listener. Complex but still accessible and that’s always a good point. This is well produced melodic instrumental metal with a sense of composition and much more than a showcase for virtuosity.

Dreamwaves is een nieuw Brits kwartet dat debuteert met een ep met vier instrumentale stukken. Dit genre is vrij uniek in het VK, meestal komt het uit continentaal Europa of Amerika. Toch hebben ze een element in hun muziek dat ons doet denken aan het gitaarspel van Steve Howe (Yes). Als hij heavy door metal beïnvloedde instrumentale stukken zou spelen dan zou het allicht klinken zoals Dreamwaves. Het betreft hier vier muzikanten die niet alleen laten horen dat ze hun instrumenten goed beheersen, maar dat ze eveneens een nummer kunnen schrijven dat de aandacht vasthoudt. Complexe stukken, dat wel, maar ze blijven toegankelijk en dat is een sterk punt.
