CRYONIC TEMPLE: Into The Glorious Battle

Cryonic Temple was founded in 1996 and released four albums. Together with Orphan Gypsy and Sabaton they are considered as the originators of the new power metal wave of the early 2000. After nine years of silence, finally a fifth album is released, their first concept album with an exciting story taking place in the future.
After a symphonic intro, ‘Thousand Faces’ kicks off with bombastic, galloping power and catchy chorus. ‘Kingsmen’ opens somewhat medieval before getting power including a great break. ‘War’ is symphonic power with sturdy guitar solo, after which ‘Heroes’ is a fine (power)ballad. Then ‘Eagle’ is a speedy power track, followed by the bombast power of the title track. The short ‘Speech’ opens with spoken word and transits into the rocking ‘Mean Streak’, followed by ‘Snowy Fields’ that rushes into power speed style. ‘Heat’ is a restrained crunch of virtuoso power, followed by the classical inspired ‘War’ ballad. ‘Heavy Burden’ is rather epic bombastic power, while ‘Freedom’ – the longest song of this album - is kind of epic ballad with guitar solo reminding of Snowy White.

Cryonic Temple werd in 1996 opgericht en bracht vier albums uit. Samen met Orphan Gypsy en Sabaton worden ze als spil van de nieuwe power metal golf van de vroege 2000 beschouwd. Na negen jaar stilte volgt nu een vijfde, hun eerste concept album met een opwindend verhaal dat in de toekomst gesitueerd is.
Na een symfonische intro, trapt ‘Thousand Faces’ af met galopperende, bombastische power en catchy refrein. ‘Kingsmen’ opent wat middeleeuws vooraleer naar power over te gaan inclusief prachtige break. ‘War’ is symfonische power met fikse gitaarsolo, waarna ‘’Heroes’ een fijne (power)ballad is. ‘Eagle’ is weer een speedy power track, gevolgd door de bombastische power van het titelnummer. Het korte ‘Speech’ begint parlando en gaat over in het rockende ‘Mean Streak’, gevolgd door ‘Snowy Fields’ dat in power speed stijl voortsnelt. ‘Heat’ is een virtuoze brok beheerste power, gevolgd door de klassiek geïnspireerde ‘War’ ballad. ‘Heavy Burden’ is eerder episch, bombastische power, terwijl ‘Freedom’ – het langste nummer van dit album - enigszins een epische ballade met gitaar solo is die aan Snowy White deed denken.
