After ‘Crooked Doors’ (2015), this is the third album of the quartet with front lady Miny and the first on a new label.
The sombre haunting ‘Burning Tree’, which opens the album, made me think of Screaming Trees. In the brooding, psychedelic ‘Showers’, Miny displays more aspects of her voice. It’s not before the catchy ‘Chair’ that things get heavier, a.o. the great bluesy solo. ‘Plans’ is a quiet haven in which Miny soulful vocals recall of the power of Janis Joplin’s voice, be it not the timbre, after which ‘Anchor’ has a grungy flavour. The sombre title track has a catchy, minimalistic riff and a raw intense passage in its midst. ‘Push’ has some piano and strings in the mix, after which the nervous ‘Turnaround’ is again more heavy. ‘The Well’ has again some psychedelic influences and ‘Asleep’ fades broodingly laced in electronic sounds.
Impressive stuff in which sixties/seventies influences are mixed with nineties and topped off with strong vocals.

Na ‘Crooked Doors’ (2015) is dit het derde album van het kwartet met frontvrouw Miny en hun eerste bij hun nieuwe platenfirma.
Het somber bezwerende ‘Burning Tree’, waarmee geopend wordt, deed me wat aan Screaming Trees denken. In het broedende, psychedelische ‘Showers’ laat Miny meer facetten van haar stem horen. Pas bij het catchy ‘Chair’ gaat het er steviger aan toe, o.a. de stevige bluesy solo. ‘Plans’ is een rustpunt waarin Miny’s soulstem toch iets van de kracht, niet het timbre, van Janis Joplin heeft, waarna ‘Anchor’ een grungy toets heeft. Het sombere titelnummer heeft een catchy minimalistische riff en rauw doorleefd middenstuk. ‘Push’ heeft wat piano en strijkers in de mix, waarna het nerveuze ‘Turnaround’ weer steviger is. ‘The Well’ heeft weer wat psychedelische invloed en ‘Asleep’ doet broedend uitgeleide, gehuld in elektronische geluiden.
Indrukwekkend materiaal waarin sixties/seventies invloeden gemengd worden met nineties en afgewerkt met sterke vocalen.
