Purpendicular is one, if not the most important Deep Purple tribute band in the world. It has even got the approval of the mighty Purple boys themselves. Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice makes that very clear by guesting on one track. On this ‘Venus To Volcanus’ album they play eleven self-penned songs that come unbelievably close to the real thing. These guys eat and breath Purple and know exactly how to create that sound, energy and atmosphere. Irish singer Robby Thomas sounds almost exactly like Gillan in his days of glory and the arrangements of the songs create that same vibe and groove that is so typical for Purple. Word is that this band is nothing less than sensational on stage, so if they are playing somewhere in your neighbourhood, check them out! Is this all relevant? It is because of the quality by which it is done. European dates from August until December – see band website.
