SOULMATIC: Silverliner

‘Silverliner’ is the third album by German trio Soulmatic. Musically they take their inspiration from blues and other roots styles like ska (‘Down Town’) and reggae (Bob Marley cover ‘No Woman No Cry’) and they play their tunes with a sense for pop feeling. The band is most interesting to this ears when they stay close to their blues roots, like they do on the title track or the original ‘Out Of The Distance’ with Werner Hammer’s U2 like guitar sounds or on driving tunes like ‘Drive Home Tonight’. In fact this analogue recorded album contains only six new songs, as they rerecorded three songs from their debut album, plus the Marley cover. Still this is an enjoyable album with a lot of variation and nice songs for the days on which you want a lighter touch. There’s a lot to enjoy on this album and more finesse than you would think at first sight!

‘Silverliner’ is het derde album van het Duitse trio Soulmatic. Muzikaal putten zij hun inspiratie uit de blues en een aantal roots stijlen zoals ska (‘Down Town’) en reggae (Bob Marley cover ‘No Woman No Cry’) en ze kruiden dat met de lichtheid van een popsong. De band is op z’n best als hij dichter bij zijn blueswortels blijft, zoals op het titelnummer of in het originele ‘Out From The Distance’ met Werner Hammer’s op het U2 geluid geïnspireerde gitaar. Deze analoog opgenomen plaat bevat slechts zes nieuwe nummers, want Soulmatic nam drie nummers van hun debuut opnieuw op plus de Marley cover. Het is toch een leuk album met veel variatie en leuke nummers voor de dagen dat je wil ontspannen met het wat lichtere werk. Er valt heel wat te genieten op dit album en er is meer finesse dan er op het eerste zicht lijkt!
