This is the first album by French Quartet Insolvency and the band started recordings in 2016. They recorded in England with producers Jim Pinder and Carl Brown (Bullet For My Valentine, Machine Head, …) which should guarantee a decent professional sound and that’s exactly what the band achieved.
The complex and brutal metal has a progressive touch with a sophisticated instrumental backing to harsh vocals. This type of vocals are not my cup of tea, but in the context of this album they make sense and there’s enough to enjoy on the instrumental and arrangement side to make this a fascinating listen. Both guitarists play some nice and fluid passages and the brutal singing and riffing contrasts with the sometimes almost lyrical and melodic breaks in the songs. They follow the footsteps of a band like Gojira and this promising debut puts them on the map. Strong debut!

Het eerste album van het Franse Insolvency werd opgenomen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk met Jim Pinder en Carl Brown (Bullet For My Valantine, Machine Head, …) als producers. Dat garandeert meteen een professionele opname.
De complexe en brutale metal heeft een progressieve component door de gesofistikeerde arrangementen die de rauwe vocalen instrumentaal ondersteunen. Dit soort zang is niet direct het kopje thee van ondergetekende, maar in de context van deze composities valt dit toch te pruimen. De gitaristen spelen vloeiende passages en de krijsende zang staat in contrast met soms bijna lyrische en melodieuze breaks. Deze groep opereert in de voetsporen van Gojira en dit debuut album maakt hen meteen tot waardige collega’s. Sterk debuut!
