DOBBELTGJENGER: Limbohead

After their debut ‘When I’ve Gone To Space’ this quartet delivers their follow up ‘Limbohead’, filled with heavy rock and a psychedelic/progressive edge.
‘Tin Foil Hat’ opens as a funny funky song getting heavier along the way. ‘Calling Tokyo’ starts with acoustic guitar, gets a country-inspired rhythm and plods along in psychedelic
manner. ‘Like Monroe’ also has a stubborn character and made me think of Screaming Trees, growing crescendo towards the end. ‘Doors’ is a quiet intermezzo, mainly acoustic.
‘Swing’ is a heavy hectic, complex piece of work. ‘Limbo’ has a catchy vocal hook, some falsetto vocals, peculiar bass lines, heavy complex break, … in short, again a stubborn piece. There were previous jazzy influences, but they’re obvious in ‘Coming’ with some Chili Peppers influences on top. ‘Radio’ is heavy rock with peculiar rhythm changes and ditto guitar. Closer ‘Mangrove’ is a heavy funk experiment.
Prog aficionados surely must give this album a chance!

Na hun debuut ‘When I’ve Gone To Space’ levert dit kwartet hun opvolger af onder de vorm van ‘Limbohead’, met heavy rock en een psychedelisch/prog randje.
‘Tin Foil Hat’ opent als een grappig funky nummer dat gaandeweg heavier wordt. ‘Calling Tokyo’ begint met akoestische gitaar, krijgt een countryachtig ritme mee en kabbelt psychedelisch verder. Ook ‘Like Monroe’ heeft een eigenzinnig karakter en doet aan Screaming Trees denken, crescendo naar het einde toe. ‘Doors’ is een rustig tussendoortje, grotendeels akoestisch. ‘Swing’ is een hectisch, complex heavy werkje
‘Limbo’ heeft een catchy vocale hook, wat falsetto zang, merkwaardige bas, heavy complexe break, … kortom, weer een eigenzinnig stuk. Waren er al jazzy invloeden voorheen, dan trekt ‘Coming’ die kaart voluit met wat Red Hot Chili Peppers invloed eroverheen. ‘Radio’ is heavy rock met merkwaardige ritme wissels en dito gitaar. Afsluiter ‘Mangrove’ is een heavy funk experiment.
Prog liefhebbers moeten dit album zeker een kans geven !
