KOMODOR: Komodor (MCD)

Komodor is a French band with youngsters who have a soft spot for the early seventies. Thus they come up with proper psychedelic vintage rock on their first MCD ‘Komodor’. They are inspired by bands such as Blue Cheer, MC5, Grand Funk Railroad and James Gang. And they do that in a wonderful manner. Spicy detail is the fact that they got some help from the entire Blues Pills band to realize this first release. It makes sense, since guitarist Dorian Sorriaux happens to be a native Frenchman, so the link is obvious. Blues Pills bassist Zack Anderson recorded these four tracks.
The chunky sounding rock in ‘Still The Same’ charms with its pumping bass and fluttering guitar solos and Slyde Barnett has the suitable greasy yet clear voice to complete the vintage vibe. In this song, as well as in ‘Join The Band’ we can hear the juicy backing vocals of flower power girl Elin Larsson. The entire Blues Pills band joins the party in ‘Nasty Habits’ and it results in a true celebration of fervent solos and ‘feel good rock’. ‘1984’ is calmer, a bit melancholic and a nice change of mood with acoustic guitars, but later the song gets heavier. This is a seminal newcomer we have to keep an eye on!

Komodor is een Franse band met jongelingen die dwepen met de jaren zeventig en aldus psychedelische vintage rock laten horen op hun eerste MCD ‘Komodor’. Ze zijn geïnspireerd door bands als Blue Cheer, MC5, Grand Funk Railroad en James Gang. En dat doen ze voortreffelijk. Bovendien kregen ze hulp om deze eerste release te realiseren van het voltallige Blues Pills. Gitarist Dorian Sorriaux is natuurlijk afkomstig uit Frankrijk en dan is de link vlug gelegd. Blues Pills bassist Zack Anderson nam de vier songs op.
De vet klinkende rock in ‘Still The Same’ charmeert met pompende bas en uitwaaierende gitaarsolo’s en Slyde Barnett heeft de geknipte vunzige, maar heldere stem om de sfeer te completeren. In dit nummer, zowel als in ‘Join The Band’ horen we de smeuïge achtergrondzang van flower power meisje Elin Larsson. In ‘Nasty Habits’ komt heel Blues Pills zelfs meespelen en dat mondt uit in een feest aan wilde solo’s en ‘feel good rock’. ‘1984’ is kalmer, beetje weemoedig en een mooie afwisseling met akoestische gitaren, maar daarna toch nog hevig. Leuke nieuwkomer die we in de gaten moeten houden!
