DRAWN INTO DESCENT: The Endless Endeavour

The promise within the 2015 released self-titled debut of Drawn Into Descent is completely coming up to our expectations, when listening to their sophomore album ‘The Endless Endeavour’. The Belgian band, hailing from Mechelen, plays atmospheric black metal with loads of post-rock influences. That’s why they create a proper contrast between the genuine despair in the screaming vocals and the very melodious guitar skills. Everything is relished with captivating, pitch black doom overtones.
The extended compositions develop like the tide, while ferocious blastbeats naturally pass into introvert passages, with slow paced tempo. The band manages to forge this into an engrossing, fascinating manifest of darkness. Repetitive patterns stimulate the surrender to these soundscapes, without falling into any monotony. The shorter, instrumental ‘Death…’ even has any gothic flavours. This is a very strong album full of flawless melodies and it regularly blows your mind towards psychedelic wanderings.

De belofte die het in 2015 uitgekomen titelloze debuut van Drawn Into Descent inhield, wordt op het tweede album ‘The Endless Endeavour’ volledig ingelost. De Mechelse band speelt atmosferische black metal met heel wat postrock invloeden, zodat een contrast ontstaat tussen de pure wanhoop in de krijsende vocalen en het zeer melodieuze gitaarspel. Alles wordt overgoten met een beklijvende, gitzwarte doomatmosfeer.
De uitgesponnen composities evolueren als eb en vloed, waarbij razende blastbeats overgaan in introverte passages, traag van tempo. De band weet dit heel boeiend tot een geheel te smeden. Repetitieve patronen werken de overgave aan deze klanklandschappen in de hand, zonder te vervallen in enige monotonie. Het kortere, instrumentale ‘Death…’ bevat zelfs enige gotische trekjes. Een heel sterk album vol straffe melodieën en regelmatig uitwaaierend naar hogere sferen.
