“A Little South Of Zero” is the much anticipated debut album from the English post hardcore band “A Poetic Yesterday”. This band, formed in 2005, signed a record deal with the famous emo/hardcore label “Rising Records” owned by Mark Daghorn. After intensive touring, numerous gigs and hard work this Midlands based band finally released their first cd. It was worth waiting for . I am really happy that APY took their time before entering the studio. All 11 songs on this album are high class tracks. After the first listening these songs already rocked my socks off. What a unique sound and catchy riffs. The band sometimes reminds me of one of my favourite artists , Coheed and Cambria”. Same arty artwork, great catchy riffs, emo/high pitch voice… same unique concept and love for the music.
Lots of noise, but always within the concept of the song. The bands main attraction are the fantastic vocals of lead singer Gavin Stewart. Great range: from high voice emo screaming to emotionally and poppy.

“A little south of zero” is het lang verwachte debuutalbum van de Engelse post hardcore band “ A poetic yesterday”. Deze Engelse band,opgericht in 2005 en afkomstig uit de Midlands versierde na lang en intensief toeren een platencontract bij het emo/hardcore label Rising Records. Eigenaar van deze muzikale stal is Mark Daghorn. Deze laatste tekende ook voor de prodctie.
Er werden kosten , noch moeite gespaard om van deze release iets speciaals te maken.
Het artwork is prachtig, de productie klinkt lekker vol, de vocalen zitten vooraan in de mix en er is oog voor detail. De muziek doet mij erg denken aan emo/screamo bands zoals Funeral for a Friend, Story of the Year, All that remains en andere Bullet for my Valentines… Toch vind ik A Poetic reason anders, specialer en beter dan bovenvermelde bands. Deze heren beschikken met Gavin Stewart over een zanger die alle regionen uit het genre aan kan: van hevige brulboei tot fijne, emotionele cleane vocalen. Wat de band voor mij dat tikkeltje extra geeft, is zeker het feit dat deze jongens mij vaak doen denken aan één van mijn favoriete bands “Coheed and Cambria”: hetzelfde oog voor detail en ondanks de nodige decibels toch oog voor songs. Nooit noise, maar altijd zin voor songstructuur en originele inkleuring: violen, spoken word passages, toffe refreinen en soms poppy inkleuring. Wie houdt van heftige muziek, screamo vocalen en prima songs, vind zeker zijn gading bij deze Engelse band. Ik ben alvast aangenaam verrast.
Leuke cd. Niets meer, maar zeker ook niets minder.
Nog een speciale vermelding voor zij die van prachtig artwork houden. Check zekere eens de website van de artstudio die verantwoordelijk is voor de prachtige kaft van deze cd: Top Two Studios. Daar vind je heel wat prachtige artwork.
