The Heavy Metal world would have looked a lot differently without Rob Halford. You will read that in any respectable report about this genre of music. Heavy Metal’s characteristics are based on Rob’s enormous voice and his outfits of clothing. That is why his nick name is Metal God. Rob Halford delved into his own career after having laid down the trend when he played the role of figure head in Judas Priest. He decided to create music under his own name via the bands FIST, 2WO and other projects. Several albums were released under the name Halford and in 2006 he founded his own company called ‘Metal God Entertainment’. From this, six albums were re-released containing previously unheard bonus material. For the first time, there was also a compilation CD released of his solo material. This ‘Metal God Essentials Vol.1’ gives a nice overview of Rob’s solo material over the past years and contains a few new songs as well. Every Heavy Metal fan knows what to expect starting from the first scream. Rob has that very typical and recognizable voice that can accommodate all kinds of Metal styles. Those twin guitars that you encounter on the Judas Priest albums were also used in his solo work. The upbeat songs are even more extreme and there’s even a place for the slow and enticing pieces. Rob can be grateful for his acrobatic voice because it’s his claim to fame. There’s a bonus DVD for the fans too. It contains behind the scenes footage and a few clips from the song “Never Satisfiedâ€, off the very first Judas Priest album, ‘Rocka Rolla’. ‘Metal God Essentials Vol.1’ gives a nice and varied view of the capabilities of this top notch guy!

De heavy metal wereld zou er heel anders hebben uitgezien zonder Rob Halford. Dat kan je in elk zichzelf respecterende reportage over het genre lezen of zien. Mede dankzij zijn enorme stem, maar ook door zijn outfit, kreeg heavy metal zijn typische kenmerken. Onder andere hierdoor kreeg Rob de bijnaam Metal God. Nadat Rob Halford zo een 20 jaar als boegbeeld van Judas Priest mede de trend bepaald had stort hij zich op zijn eigen carrière. Via de groep FIST, 2WO en andere projecten besluit Halford verder te musiceren onder zijn eigen naam. Zo worden enkele albums onder deze naam uitgebracht. In 2006 richt Rob zijn eigen company ‘Metal God Entertainment’ op. Meteen worden zes albums heruitgebracht met onuitgegeven bonusmateriaal. Tevens wordt er voor het eerst een verzamel-cd van solomateriaal van hem uitgebracht. Deze ‘Metal God Essentials Vol. 1’ geeft een mooi overzicht van Rob’s solomateriaal uit de afgelopen jaren maar bevat ook enkele nieuwe songs. Al meteen vanaf de eerste schreeuw weet iedere heavy metal fan welk vlees hij in de kuip heeft. Rob heeft dan ook een zo typerende en herkenbare stem die veel stijlen metal aankan. De typische twin gitaren die op de Judas Priest albums aan te treffen waren, worden ook in het solowerk niet geschuwd. De up-tempo songs zijn nog extremer maar ook de trage, slepende stukken vinden hun terechte plaats. Het is die stemacrobatie waar Rob Halford zijn faam (en naam) aan te danken heeft. Als bonus krijgt de fan nog een dvd met daar op “Behind The Scene†footage en enkele clips waarvan de opmerkzame toeschouwer onder de indruk zal zijn van “Never Satisfiedâ€, een song uit het allereerste Judas Priest album ‘Rocka Rolla’. ‘Metal God Essentials Vol. 1’ geeft dan ook een mooi gevarieerd beeld van het kunnen van deze klasbak!
