CHANNEL ZERO: Black Flower (single)

Channel Zero absolutely does not require any introduction. Let’s just start by saying: “probably” and “best Belgian metal band”, and this should do. So, over to their new release ‘Black Flowers”. And, to be quiet honest, we are a little bit disappointed. Our expectations were sky high, as for this release both press and fans have been looking forward impatiently for a very long time. But the song, to say the least, did not rock our socks off. And to be blown away is exactly what we expect from a new release by Franky and his boys. Also Mikey Doling (Soulfly) on guitar and production can’t change our mind. Of course, ‘Black Flowers’ isn’t bad and the song surely has its moments, but as a whole, we expected more. By the time the band will be performing both Graspop and Werchter we hope to find a new album by the band packed with songs much better than this one. In the meantime we will put some ‘Black Flowers” into our layer and wait for the new album to come out. Good deal, boys?

Handig zo’n bespreking van de single ‘Black Flowers’ van Channel Zero. Enkel de woorden ‘waarschijnlijk ‘ en ‘beste Belgische metalband’ moeten ruimschoots volstaan om de topstatus van de heren te omschrijven. Dus meteen over naar de song. En die is… toch een beetje teleurstellend. En daar kan de aanwezigheid van Mikey Doling (Soulfly) op gitaar (en productie) niets aan veranderen. Slecht is dit natuurlijk niet. Daarvoor is de band gewoon veel te goed. Maar echt van onze sokken blazen doet ‘Black Flowers’ zeker niet. En voor minder dan een orkaan doen we het niet bij Franky en zijn kompanen. En daarom zijn we streng, maar rechtvaardig. Tegen hun optredens op Graspop en Werchter willen wij nieuw werk in onze bus vinden dat de absolute topstatus van deze vaandeldragers van onze metalscène bevestigt. Voorlopig draaien we dan - af en toe - deze single als opwarmer. Afgesproken?
