AOR aficionados are regularly surprised with unexpected, yet obvious projects of united musicians from the melodic rock scene. The time when a really young band rises in the genre is less frequent, but this one is brand new. They are hailing from Brazil, that’s rather exceptional too. Vocalist Gui Oliver and guitarist Ferpa Lacerda are the driving forces behind Auras. After several years of playing in cover bands, they wrote their first composition ‘Hungry Hearts’. The response was very positive and they were encouraged to write more material. It resulted in the first album ‘New Generation’.
And it has to be said: this new generation has done a sure-fire job. We get twelve very typical AOR songs with fetching melodies, now and then an excellent guitar solo of Ferpa and keyboard melodies that bring us straight to the heydays of Journey, Survivor, Toto, Foreigner and also a bit in the vein of the pomp rock days of Van Halen. Even Jimi Jamison and Jeff Scott Soto sent some compliments to these guys. The twelve songs on this debut were recorded in cooperation with jazz drummer Edu Sallum and old-hands-in-studio Matheus Brandon and Hemerson Vieira. They will offer a great time to everybody who has a liking for above mentioned bands. The final touch (mix and mastering) was in the hands of Dennis Ward. A sunny feel-good album!

AOR liefhebbers worden geregeld verwend door onverwachte en toch voor de hand liggende projecten van muzikanten uit het melodieuze rockmilieu. De keren dat een echt jonge band in het genre opstaat zijn al minder frequent, maar dit is er zo ééntje. Ze komen dan nog uit Brazilië ook, helemaal ongebruikelijk. Zanger Gui Oliver en gitarist Ferpa Lacerda zijn de motor van Auras. Na ettelijke jaren in coverbands spelen, waagden ze zich met ‘Hungry Hearts’ aan een eerste eigen compositie. De respons was zo positief dat er al vlug meerdere composities geboren werden en ziehier het eerste album ‘New Generation’.
En het dient gezegd: die nieuwe generatie brengt het er prima vanaf. Heel typische AOR songs met aanstekelijke melodieën, hier en daar een ferme gitaarsolo van Ferpa en toetsenmelodietjes die ons zo terugbrengen naar de hoogdagen van Journey, Survivor, Toto, Foreigner en ook een klein beetje de pomprock periode van Van Halen. Zelfs van Jimi Jamison en Jeff Scott Soto kreeg het stel al complimenten. De twaalf songs op dit debuut werden met behulp van jazzdrummer Edu Sallum en studiorotten Matheus Brandon en Hemerson Vieira opgenomen en zullen veel luisterplezier bieden aan iedereen die houdt van bovenvermelde bands. De finale toets (mix & mastering) was in de handen van Dennis Ward. Een zonnige plaat die je vrolijk maakt!
