English:

It’s not often that one gets to review a band from Luxemburg but My Own Ghost is based in that little tiny (and wonderful) country although some of the musicians are German. The first thing that strikes the listener is the sheer energy that blasts out of the speakers. And then there’s the powerful voice of Julie Rodesh who is a real killer. In their bio their music is described as Evanescence meets Fleetwood Mac, but that is sort of misleading. There are moments when the band makes you think of Evanescense and Julie may bend her melodies a bit like Stevie Nicks now and then, but these are only moments. Above all it’s their own energy and melodic power that fascinates while listening to the album. The recording/production/mix is very much ‘in your face’ and that may make them not suitable for the pop audience after all although there are surely elements of ‘pop’ in their arrangements. They are really a rock band with a rough sound and very listenable songs. There’s a certain ‘ring’ in the background in the mix on some songs that may be annoying but besides that, this is a surprisingly good album. Much will depend on how the band manages in a live situation. I hope to see them someday!

Nederlands:
